What are your plans for September?

In September, our aim is that our spacious 54-acre parkland campus will be open for students and staff to enjoy safely. This includes our teaching facilities, study areas, library, social spaces, accommodation and other amenities, all with appropriate physical distancing in place. The measures we will have in place to ensure and protect the health and wellbeing of our community are beginning to be deployed and will be ready fully by September.

This Autumn, we plan to provide blended learning: combining physical teaching and learning on campus, delivered in a safe environment, with larger lectures online.

We intend to be as flexible to your needs as we can be and we will therefore also provide the option of studying entirely online for the first term if you would like to, where this is possible.

How are you making sure the campus will be safe?

We have been putting in place many new measures to ensure we have an environment that puts student and staff wellbeing at its heart. Measures include:

  • all teaching and social spaces will be COVID-secure, in line with the latest government guidelines on social distancing
  • enhanced cleaning across campus, including teaching spaces, places of worship, social areas, the Library, diners and in student accommodation (such as kitchens and other communal areas)
  • reception desks and student-facing contact points, including counters in shops and catering facilities, will have screens and sanitation points installed, and there will be an enhanced provision of hand sanitisers across campus
  • social distancing measures in place in our Library and revised procedures, including returned books being quarantined for 72 hours before being shelved
  • new access and one-way pedestrian routes introduced around the University, designed to ensure safe passage around all buildings when the campus reopens
  • instructions for staff and students will be made available later in the summer, outlining the safe use of teaching spaces including entering, occupying and leaving classrooms. We are also developing a policy on the use of face coverings.

Do you have facilities for students who need to self-isolate?

The University has in place isolation procedures and quarantine facilities for any students who need to self-isolate, including dedicated flats which will have food supplies delivered. The University's on-campus Student Medical Centre will remain open and work in partnership with the University to ensure the wellbeing of all students. This includes setting up a testing process for students.

Self-isolating

The University will work on a case-by-case basis to support each student who self-isolate. This will be treated under the Mitigating Circumstances Policy. There will be no impact on your attendance record or student finance.

Self-isolating on campus

  • Remain in your bedroom and away from others
  • Email cvreports@roehampton.ac.uk
  • Contact your Head of Department or Programme Convenor
  • The Wellbeing Team or Senior College Warden will contact you regarding your support during self-isolation
  • Follow self-isolation advice from NHS111.

The Wellbeing Team or Senior College Warden will contact you every day during self-isolation. It is important that you are able to self-sustain as much as possible. This involves planning in advance and having suitable supplies including food and healthcare products now. You will receive information on the phone and by email on catering, cleaning, waste, maintenance, fire and security arrangements as well as guidance on self-isolation. This guidance can be found here (available soon).

Your flatmates will also be required to self-isolate too. Each person in the flat will receive an email informing them of this from the Wellbeing Team or the Senior College Warden.

Students must take all sensible precautions at this time. Use of shared facilities including kitchens and bathrooms should be staggered where possible and surfaces wiped down after use.

Someone in my flat is self-isolating / I've been told I need to self-isolate because someone in my flat has symptoms

If someone in your flat is told to self-isolate, current government guidance is that the entire flat must self-isolate too.

You will receive an email from the Wellbeing Team or Senior College Warden with this information and guidance on catering, cleaning, waste, maintenance, fire and security arrangements as well as guidance on self-isolation. This guidance can be found here (available soon).

Students must take all sensible precautions at this time. Use of shared facilities including kitchens and bathrooms should be staggered where possible and surfaces wiped down after use.

How to tell the University if you have a confirmed diagnosis of coronavirus (COVID-19)

Please do not be worried about being absent from your studies for this period. Your Department will help to make sure this does not affect your studies.

  • If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 email cvreports@roehampton.ac.uk
  • You will also need to report your absence to the University by completing an Absence Form via the Attendance Monitoring System (AMS). Students with specific visa and immigration requirements will be supported fully by the UKVI Team.

The University will keep in regular contact with you including with support and guidance on accessing learning materials and undertaking assessments. Each situation will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, including regarding extensions.

Care for dependant in relation to coronavirus (COVID-19)

If you need care for a dependant due to coronavirus, the absence will not impact on your attendance record.

This applies to looking after children and caring for someone with an underlying health condition.

  • Careers guidance: find out about the careers, placement and internship support available to you by logging onto CareerLink from the Student Portal or downloading the CareerLink app. Live Chat is a new feature available on CareerLink which allows students to talk directly with a careers adviser to gain answers to queries. If you do not have access to a computer to complete your work, please contact your programme convenor or academic department for guidance.
